Picture Book: The Tortoise and the Hairpiece
by Don M. Winn
illustrated by Toby Hefflin
The Tortoise and the Hairpiece by Don Winn is a fun picture book to illustrate for kids that when they want to make friends, trying to fit in and being just like everyone else is not always the answer. Instead, true friends value you for who you are, not for what you look like or who you pretend to be. Questions at the end of the story can help parents start a discussion with their children and learn how their kids feel about the best ways to make new friends.
This book is available as a softcover, hardcover, or e-book.

The Tortoise and the Hairpiece is the story of a lonely young tortoise named Jake who is embarrassed by his bald head. Even though other animals invite him to play, he keeps to himself, positive that nobody will really want to be his friend because he looks different. When he tries to look like everyone else, it doesn't quite work the way he planned, but he learns that no one needs to try to be someone else or look like someone else just to make friends.
The picture book The Tortoise and the Hairpiece by Don M. Winn can be used to teach children that true friends value you for who you are inside; that everyone is different from everyone else and that’s what makes them special; and that everyone wants to fit in so they can have friends, but the best way to make friends is to be yourself.
